They enhance the craftsmanship of the wooden case and even added chimes so that these clocks will not only serve their purpose as timepieces but they can also be home decorations as well. Used grandfather clocks are considered antiques. If you are considering on buying them, here are some tips that you should follow:

  • You have to know the authenticity of the used grandfather clock. Know the clock maker, the age, and the history so that you will determine if the price of the clock is right and appropriate.
  • Research the current market price of the used grandfather clock that you want and compare it with what you have.
  • Examine the clock. Look at its condition. Look at the finish. Check for any cracks, split, or gouged wood and any damage finials or molding. If there are front doors and side access panels, check the insides.
  • Examine the components of the clock too for the workability, any past repairs and its aesthetics. Check the weights, cable and pulleys, pendulum, pendulum bob, the condition of the glass, and the fitting of the dial mask around the dial for gaps.
  • Check also the seller’s reputation and the venue that sells the clock. You can trust a reputable auction house and any trusted antique store. But if the clock is sold on the flea market or on a newspaper advertisement, conduct an investigation first. Also, ask the seller for any warranty and return policy before closing the deal.
