How to Find the Precise Parts You Need

A lot of Hermle clock repair artisans know at first glance what parts you may need for your damaged clock, and they can teach you how to distinguish these parts yourself. They have what is called the big four parts that you may need to check to help you know exactly what parts and movements are needed for the repair work that they will be doing for you. Here are things you need to do to get the precise parts and information on the parts you will need:

You will need a pen, a piece of paper, and a standard ruler to check for these parts you will have to get to fix your Hermle clock. You will need these tools to measure and note the parts that you might need to order for you to fix your clock.
The next step would be to retrieve the clock’s movement from the clock case. When you get the clock movement, you will see inside the following parts. These definitions are based on how these parts are placed as seen from the front of the clock:
- Handshaft – found directly behind the arms of your clock.
- Snail – found underneath the handshaft.
- Time – gears found beneath the snail.
- Chime – gears found to the right of the snail.
- Strike – found to the left of the snail.
- Cable or Chain – seen directly beneath the strike.

1. The next thing you will need to do after you see these parts is to determine whether your clock has weights that are hanging from cable or chain. You can probably see this from the side of the clock where these can be found.
